Scientific interests

My scientific interests focus on the study of dietary and lifestyle patterns, human eating behaviours and nutritional determinants of health and diet-related diseases. An important area is the development of dietary assessment methods and the development of food frequency questionnaires (FFQs).

I am the expert in nutritional assessment who sets trends in this area, e.g. I introduce the analysis of dietary patterns (DPs) to Polish scientific literature and provided evidence for the need for a broader perspective in the assessment of nutrition, i.e. identification of dietary-lifestyle patterns (DLPs). This holistic approach in the analysis of the association between diet, lifestyle and health was used in the context of the risk of diet-related diseases, including osteoporosis, overweight and obesity, breast and lung cancers, heart and vascular diseases.

I am the author/co-author of several food frequency questionnaires adapted to the specificity of the Polish diet, e.g. 165-itemFFQ®, FIVeQ®, 62-itemFFQ-6®, 62-itemFFQ-10®, KomPAN®; ADOS-Ca®, SF-FFQ4PolishChildren®, as well as scores allowing a comprehensive assessment of the diet quality, e.g. pHDI ,,pro-Healthy-Diet-Index”, n-HDI "non-Healthy-Diet-Index”, DQI "Diet-Quality-Index" and Polish-aMED “Polish-adapted Mediterranean Diet score”, the last one was modelled on the traditional diet Mediterranean countries and fitted to the Polish conditions, including food supply and food consumption structure.

Scientific interests

My scientific interests focus on the assessment of the diet and nutritional status of various population groups and their non-nutritional determinants (demographic, socioeconomic, behavioral). An important area of my scientific and research activity is the improvement of dietary assessment methods, including: validation of food frequency questionnaires (165-itemFFQ®, KomPAN®, SF-FFQ4PolishChildren®, 62-itemFFQ-6®, 72-item SQ-FFQ).

I am the co-author of the SF-FFQ4PolishChildren® questionnaire designed to assess the frequency of food consumption, nutritional knowledge and lifestyle of children and adolescents aged 6-15 years, and the semi-quantitative 72-item SQ-FFQ to assess the frequency of food consumption as well as the energy and nutritional value of the usual diet in adults.

I conducted workshops in two editions of the ‘Summer school for developing dietary data from food frequency questionnaires (FFQs)’ organized at the Faculty of Food Science, University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn (2016, 2017).

My scientific achievements include over 90 publications and scientific communications. I participated in the implementation of national scientific and scientific-educational projects. Since 2014, I have been cooperating with researchers from the University of Porto (Portugal), where I completed two scientific internships. Since 2019, I have been a member of the Polish Society of Nutritional Sciences.

Scientific projects

Participation in 5 scientific projects:

  2. national scientific-educational project ‘ABC of Healthy Eating’, funded by Carrefour Foundation (France), 2014-2016; functions: scientific secretary, researcher,
  3. national scientific-educational project ‘ABC of Healthy Eating – ABC of Kids’ Nutrition’, funded by Carrefour Foundation (France), 2016-2017; function: researcher,
  4. national scientific-educational project ‘ABC of Healthy Eating – ABC of Kid’s and Parents’ Nutrition. Development of proper nutrition habits of children and their parents’, funded by Carrefour Foundation (France), 2017-2018; function: researcher,
  5. national scientific project ‘Polish Infants and Toddler Nutritional Study’ (PITNUTS), funded by Nutricia Foundation, 2024 (No NCT06417151); function: researcher.

Speciality

My scientific interests focus on investigating the relation between dietary behaviours, diet quality, lifestyle and health of various population groups, with a particular focus on school-aged children and adolescents and the elderly. I use a holistic approach based on the identification of dietary patterns (DPs) to assess diet quality. I investigate the benefits and the risks to health and physical performance resulting from the use of dietary supplements by men.

An important area is the development of food frequency questionnaires (FFQs). I am the co-author of 5 food frequency questionnaires fitted to the specificity of the Polish diet: FIVeQ®, 62-itemFFQ-6®, 62-itemFFQ-10®, QEB i KomPAN®.

I am the expert in nutritional education and dietary prevention, working with many national education centres and governmental and non-governmental organisations. I was the regional coordinator of a national project on nutritional assessment of school-aged children and nutrition education targeting students, parents, and teachers (JEZ study).

Scientific interests

My scientific interests focus on the study of nutritional and non-nutritional determinants of health and diet-related diseases among various population groups. A particularly important area of my scientific and research activity is the analysis of dietary patterns (DPs) and lifestyle in the context of the occurrence of cancer. I am the co-author of an innovative approach in the analysis combining the identification of DPs and blood biomarkers in the form of Hybrid Dietary-Blood Inflammatory profiles, Metabolic-Hormone, and Vitamin-Mineral profiles. This holistic approach to assessing the associations between diet and health/disease has been proposed in the case-control studies in the context of breast cancer occurrence in women.

I am the co-author of a Dietary Habits and Nutrition Beliefs Questionnaire KomPAN® and the Manual for Developing of Nutritional Data, as well as scores allowing a comprehensive assessment of the diet quality, e.g. pHDI ,,pro-Healthy-Diet-Index”, n-HDI "non-Healthy-Diet-Index”, DQI "Diet-Quality-Index" and Polish-aMED® “Polish-adapted Mediterranean Diet score”, the last one was modeled on the traditional diet Mediterranean countries and fitted to the Polish conditions, including food supply and food consumption structure.
